Spells and other skills that do not deal fixed damage (such as most spells dealing elemental damage) also scale directly with the caster's level (about 5.3% added damage increase per level). A high attribute also allows to wield better weapons, since better weapons typically require a higher attribute rank. Being able to invest more in an attribute to reach a higher rank in turn means stronger skills, more benefit from the attribute's inherent effects (such as more energy refund in the case of Soul Reaping or more critical hits when attacking with the relevant weapon in the case of a martial weapon attribute), and in the case of a martial weapon attribute - Swordsmanship, Marksmanship and all "Mastery" attributes, it increases damage done when attacking with the weapon (about 9% added damage increase for each attribute rank below 12, 3.5% above 12). Level dictates your maximum health and the number of attribute points that you can invest. Your weapon also plays a role: in the case of martial classes, damage range plays a vital part, while in the case of casters, modifiers affecting spells are more important. The three most important factors are your level, your armor and your available skills. This is especially true with other players. Group performance is not only about its composition but also about each individual player. You might want to avoid melee henchmen because they can make pulling (see below) very hard if not flagged appropriately.For example, for a party of 8 members, you could use 1 minion master, 1 spirit spammer, 2 backlines, and 4 midlines with 1-3 pets. This freedom of creation is one of the most interesting parts of Guild Wars. As such, it's possible to see paragons or rangers going frontline with daggers, or assassins going midline with a bow.
